The First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon will today visit Srebrenica, the site of the worst atrocity on European soil since World War Two.
Young members of the Church of Scotland (CofS) raised more than £1,000 for Remembering Srebrenica Scotland after their new leader was moved by the testimony of a woman who lost her brother in the genocide.
This year’s 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide was marked with a high-profile memorial service in St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, addressed by Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
The name Srebrenica has become synonymous with those dark days in July 1995 when, in the first ever United Nations declared safe area, thousands of men and boys were systematically murdered and buried in mass graves.
