Hatidža Mehmedović – Why the world must never forget Srebrenica
Hatidža lost her husband and two sons in the Srebrenica genocide. With other civilians, she tried to find protection in the UN base at Potočari, only to find that troops led by Ratko Mladić had taken over and begun days of killing and torture. The name Srebrenica has become synonymous with those dark days in July 1995 when, in the first ever United Nations declared safe area, thousands of men and boys were systematically murdered and buried in mass graves.
