Remembering Srebrenica's Statement on the Anti-Semitic Attack in Pittsburg

We are devastated by Saturday’s evil, hate filled and anti-Semitic attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburg. We at Remembering Srebrenica, along with our 7 regional boards, 3 country boards and over 1,200 Community Champions stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in Pittsburg, the US and around the whole world.

As we learn the shooter had a long history of far-right extremism we need to remember the terrible impact of anti-Semitism, unchallenged prejudice and hate-filled discourse. That this happened just 75 years after the Holocaust shows we have still not learnt the lessons from the past and we must redouble our efforts to challenge the hate, ignorance and prejudice led to this.

Dr Waqar Azmi OBE, Chair or Remembering Srebrenica said:

Our thoughts are with the victims and families of this horrific, anti-Semitic attack. That this happened in a place of worship that the Jewish Community saw as their sanctuary is truly devastating. We must work even harder to counter the hateful narrative that prevails and stand up to anti-Semitism and all forms of hate, wherever it is found”
