Remembering Srebrenica UK, as an organisation that fights against genocide denial and teaches on the consequences of hatred is all too familiar with the lessons of “othering” human beings. Yesterday marked White Armband Day, a painful reminder of the otherisation Bosnian Muslims endured during the Bosnian war and subsequent genocide when they were forced to mark themselves with White Armbands to be identified for persecution and extermination. These following few months are a painful reminder for many Bosnians about the injustice and hatred they faced that led to their genocide. We understand how Islamophobia, ethno-nationalism, and racism lead to horrifying attacks. It’s precisely because of this that we stand in solidarity with all of those fighting the complex and long history of racial injustice in the United States and throughout the world; just as we stand in solidarity with victims of the Bosnian genocide.
“Hate, it has caused a lot of problems in the world, but has not solved one yet.”
