In the run up to Memorial Week 2014 Remembering Srebrenica has worked in partnership with the Catholic Bishops Conference to provide up to 2000 schools with access to education resources on the Srebrenica genocide.
With the kind assistance of Mr Greg Pope, Head of Parliamentary Relations for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and Deputy Director for the Catholic Education Service (third from the left), resources have been provided for use in 11th July assemblies. Mr Pope visited Srebrenica in December 2013 as a ‘Lessons from Srebrenica’ delegate and pledged to assist RSI in raising awareness of the Srebrenica genocide here in the UK.
Pupils who attend an assembly will now have the opportunity to learn lessons from the genocide at Srebrenica. By reflecting on the terrible events which occurred there in July 1995, they will consider the importance of tolerance and understanding among all communities in promoting good citizenship and preventing hatred and discrimination.
Further educational resources will be available in the near future to assist schools in incorporating lessons on Srebrenica within their in-school delivery. For further information please call us on +44 (0)121 285 0440 or send an email to info@srebrenica.org.uk.
